With less and less arable land available around the world, increasing yields from existing plots will become increasingly important to keep up with expected population growth. Cheap and effective fertilizers could be the key to achieving this goal. As the global leader in potash production, PotashCorp has several barriers-to-entry established that make it nearly impossible for competition to break through. Intel (Nasdaq: INTC) has been left for dead. Semiconductor investors have been focusing on wireless and low-power rather than PC suppliers. That shouldn’t be a surprise since PC makers had a very tough 2012. The corporate PC refresh cycle was extended due to the weak economy. Tablets were becoming mainstream. Dell (Nasdaq: DELL) and HP (NYSE: HPQ) continued to disappoint. Intel tried to get into mobile computing, but the Ultrabook isn’t effectively competing with the iPad. However, the corporate computing market isn’t going away. Expectations are low, the stock is cheap… and with a 5% dividend, you are being nicely paid to wait for earnings to improve. The CEO transition will bring an increased focus on mobile, which will hopefully increase the number of design wins for Intel’s low-power Medfield product line.

It's been a crummy year for semiconductor giant Intel. Shares of the $104 billion chipmaker have slid more than 24 percent in the trailing 12 months, underperforming the S&P 500 by a broad clip. So why is this struggling stock making our list of must-own dividend names now? In short, it's getting ready for a change in trend.

Intel is the biggest name in the chip business, with around 80 percent of the microprocessor market. If you own a computer, there's a 4-in-5 chance that it's powered by an Intel chip. Intel's dominance in the chip business has been hard fought, but now that it's so established, the firm is going to be hard to unseat. Intel effectively owns the computer processor business, and while computers have become extremely commoditized in recent years, Intel's chips haven't.

Mobile devices are the biggest path to growth for Intel at this point, in part because they get consumed so quickly and in part because they could steal share from the computer business. Intel's balance sheet is pristine, with around $12 billion in net cash and investments after all of its debt is accounted for. Better still, that steady downtrend in shares has shoved Intel's generous dividend yield to 4.28 percent. As semiconductors stage an about-face in 2013, Intel shareholders should benefit more than most.

Intel (INTC, $23.31). Chipmaker moving beyond PCs to "faster-growing mobile phone space" and has sizable 3.6% dividend yield and a below-market P-E ratio of around 10.

I currently hold Intel long and have decided to also write weekly covered calls against my position starting soon as I outlined in this article here. To me, Intel is the quintessential dividend stock everyone should own. With a market cap of around $135 billion, and quarter after quarter of beating earnings, they are not only a behemoth but also a well performing machine. Consider their cash position and their competitive advantage of being ahead of the curve within their space, and they are set up to weather any storm particularly well.

Intel is currently trading around $27 resistance and has been for quite some time. It could be due for a breakout very soon, and as such I find it to be a good candidate for purchase. My 2012 end of year price target is $32 to $36, indicating a 19% to 34% increase over Friday's close of $26.92, along with a $0.21 dividend per share paid quarterly.

Somehow, this beautifully positioned gold company has shed fully half of its market capitalization since I highlighted the stock's highly alluring project portfolio back in mid-2011. I believe the result is a crystal-clear bargain for exposure to an extraordinarily well-funded developer where cash and equivalents account for roughly one-quarter of the company's resulting $600 million market cap. Major miner Goldcorp (NYSE: GG  ) continues to advance a major tram project to connect its Cochenour and Bruce Channel gold deposits to its legendary Red Lake mining complex, and Premier remains a major beneficiary as the tram traverses the highly prospective Rahill-Bonanza properties in which Premier holds a 49% joint-venture stake. This haulage drift has already "intersected multiple anomalous gold-bearing structures" that warrant systematic underground exploration with a strong likelihood of meaningful success, and I discuss the significance of this strong exploration potential within my premium research report on Goldcorp (which investors can access simply by clicking here). But the company also boasts a 4.2 million ounce resource (measured and indicated) within a district-scale cluster of gold deposits elsewhere in Ontario, as well as an eye-catching prospect adjacent to the historical Cove mine along Nevada's famed Battle Mountain/Eureka trend.
