Focus Expands to Transition ‘Elite’ Advisors to Independent RIAs

Focus Financial announced Thursday that it hired Garry Taylor as director of advisor services to help “elite breakaway advisors” transition to independent practices.

Taylor (left) will report to Rich Gill, managing director and head of Focus Connections.

“Garry’s experience as an advisor allows him to truly understand the concerns held by both breakaways and their clients, giving him invaluable insight into how to make the transition as seamless and efficient as possible for all parties,” Gill said in a statement.

The Focus Connections program, established in 2008, provides newly formed RIAs with an interim COO and a team of consultants to help the advisor transition. The Connections program also helps recruit and transition breakaway advisors who are joining existing Focus partner firms.

Previously, Taylor was director of client implementation at Fidelity Investments, where he oversaw the transition of more than 20 teams in excess of $5 billion. Prior to that he was an investor services advisor at Merrill Lynch.

“Entrepreneurial advisors remain driven to establish their own firms, with market trends and client expectations ensuring that the growth and number of independent RIAs will continue to flourish,” said Rudy Adolf, Founder and CEO of Focus, in a statement. “Elite breakaways continue to look to the Connections program for the best insight and resources available when forming their unique firms, and we are pleased that Garry is bringing his expertise to Focus to help our clients throughout the transition.”
