April Chip Sales Up 2.2% From March; Up 50.4% From Yr Ago

Worldwide chip sales in April were $23.6 billion, up 2.2% from March, and up 50.4% from a year ago, according to new data from the Semiconductor Industry Association.

For the year’s first four month, sales were $92.6 billion, up 54.2% from a year ago.

SIA President George Scalise said in a statement that global chip sales “grew at a healthy rate in April, surpassing the previous monthly record level” in November 2007.

Going forward, he says, SIA expects chip sales to return to historical seasonal patterns. “Future growth of the industry remains heavily dependent on the continued global economy recovery, and in particular, on continued growth in the developing markets that are the largest demand drivers for our products,” he said.
