Before dreaming, everyone is streaming.
Netflix (NFLX) now accounts for more than 20% of downstream Internet traffic during peak times in U.S., with heaviest usage between 8 and 10 p.m. That’s according to Sandvine, which makes bandwidth management equipment, as reported by Multichannel News.
The report also notes that when it comes to Internet usage, North America trails far being the Asia-Pacific region. North American households on average use 4 gigabytes a month of Internet bandwidth, versus 12 gigabytes in A/P. The average time a fixed connection is active is 3 hours a day in North America, versus nearly 5.5 hours in Asia-Pacific.
Streaming in prime time? Not a good sign for cable and satellite TV service providers.
